That was a horrible attempt at trying to be even remotely funny.
plus i also grew up watching gore and horror movies and all thats done is made me bring a gun with me on camping trips jks

Another horrible attempt at trying to be funny, plus a very fucked up statement because that's a dreadful scenario.
but seriosly ive got a mate who knew everything about guns by age 8

Good for him, where is the relevance to that and this topic. I've known about various amounts of guns and how they worked since I was 5 because it was always something that interested me. If it was really was relevant, you do know that newer weaponry is coming out every year that uses newer parts and so on and so forth, which would make that statement completely false right?
and hes fine

Again, no relevance to the argument. This is about video games, not how guns work and how they affect children.
basicaly let ya kids play video games infact new studies have shown gamers are less violent in real life and instead take out tre insane killing thoughts on thier games

Care to link us to this supposed study instead of pulling something out of your ass to further back up your points?
who here hasnt tbaged a corpse on cod but would ya do it in real life

Well no shit you wouldn't, there is a fine line between the things you can do in a video game and things you can do based in your real life. Plus, even then, it all comes down to the statement, "are you retarded?" or "do you have any commonsense?" considering you need to be stupid to do such an idiotic thing in your everyday life.

Quit trying to be funny.
nothings wrong with me

Clearly there is and why did you post it 3 goddamn times? You do know that one time will suffice right?

Yeah, you're right, five year olds deserve to die because their mental capacities aren't as big as adults!

No, but the ones with nothing to offer when they're older do. The ones that are on movable life support with a tube in their neck with a "god's little miracle" sign on the back of their wheelchair don't deserve to live that kind of life.

I was actually thinking about this the other day, and I remembered that years ago, my younger cousin used to play some game which the name escapes my memory. I believe it was once called Bully but the name was changed? It takes place in a school, sort of GTA styled. But anyway I remember asking to have a go and I would do reckless things on the game and he would scream about it because apparently you have an in-game record of everything you do wrong and that has an effect on the game (I think). So if I were to get arrested, it would actually effect the character's reputation or something.

Now thinking back to this, I realised this game set boundaries to the character where he did have free choice, but it was set realisticly so the choices you took were rewarded/given consequences, unlike many video games where you can get away with doing reckless gameplay for fun.

So, I believe that games that don't set these realistic boundaries have a higher chance of causing intimidation in kids. Why? Well they're kids, they're still learning about the morals of society and these games, which are age restricted for a reason, escape from these morals.

I'm not saying the majority of kids will blow up their school from games, but I think that it may have a more indirect intimidation effect. A gangster in GTA for example is breaking rules in an environment that the kid doesn't have, so instead, maybe he intimidates the character but applies it to their own environment. That is something I relate to, as when I was a kid I definitely became more disobedient after playing violent video games.

And because of this, it may long-termingly result in worse behavior. A disobedient 10 year old keeps his reputation up and keeps developing it as his age group increases.

Of course these are just my thoughts and I feel as if I've worded them poorly, feel free to disagree if you do.

Asterisk wrote:While I'm a hardcore gamer and wouldn't stop playing them for much, I have to admit that some video games probably aren't the best, especially for developing kids. When someone grows up playing games where killing, swearing, etc. are acceptable, it becomes a part of them and carries on into their later years, making these sorts of things acceptable in reality. I speak this from experience; I have played the Midnight Club series for years, and after fleeing the police, flipping my car, and running over people and objects for so many years, I don't see it as nearly as big of a deal as I should now that I have my licence. A few weeks ago, I successfully burned out around a corner and thought I was a total bad-ass, so I tried it again a few minutes later on a busier road and completely spun the car out, ending up in the grass on the OTHER side of the road. The thing is, the whole time it was happening I was completely calm, as if spinning out on a road with oncoming traffic was normal.
Basically what I'm saying is video games aren't bad for their intended audience (the ESRB rating system was put in place for a reason), but when this is violated I do think it can have a negative affect (though I've been playing M games since I was at least 11).

I know that video games definitely changed me. My first rated M game was Turok: Evolution. I was only 7 when I first played it. I clubbed a man's head off at the beginning, and it's all downhill from there. I said my first swear word a few weeks after playing it, and I was a bit more aggressive towards other kids at school. In short, playing a rated M game earlier than the ESRB rating suggested turned me into a different person. However, I believe it is entirely up to the parent or parents of the child to choose what kind of games they do and do not play.
I'm waiting for the call, the hand on the chest.
I'm ready for the fight and fate.

Well, I know it socially affects some people doing it alot, it's not always the case though. In my class, one guy barely talks to people in real life, only by CoD and such. This way he got a personality that some things that sound cool over the Xbox, but don't work when you're just talking in real life because in real life, looks matter too.

Everyone finds him a wannabe, because he talks hard shit, but walks around in stupid ass clothes, he has a weird haircut and he smells bad most of the time.

So yeah, if you game as a kid and socially develop in that way, you might not get what you want in real life, be seen as a wannabe and get depressed.

This only works when someone starts getting social contacts over the internet, and only from the internet, since a young age. And even then, the kid might catch a glimpse of what he should do and still become popular.

Conclusion: it can, but it won't affect too many people.

Did you ever think maybe there's something wrong with him? Assuming people are weird and disliked because they come across like they play a lot of video games makes you just as bad, socially.

If you're that weak-minded to let yourself get influenced by "vedio" games, then there must be something wrong with you.

No shit games are rated by PEGI. Quite frankly, I don't give a shit about them ratings, because making a difference between real and virtual life, is easy for me.

Pretty much. Caleb I don't think you can really come to any sort of conclusion that video games are the cause of that kid's shittiness. Just because there's a relation doesn't mean there's a correlation. If he wears weird clothes, always has weird haircuts and never showers, that seems like it's more likely the fault of the parents. Possibly his gaming gave him a reason to not try to go out and get real life friends which furthered his seclusion, but at his age there is no way to just link all of his faults to a single cause.

It's basically having no life, like, absolutely no life for your whole life... so yeah, there is something wrong with him. I don't know, perhaps he has a social disorder or such too... I thought it had to do with video games, but frankly, I barely know anything of him.
