Ok since all the inters are talking about combos atm, I thought I might as well create this fun little quick game wink)

It's really simple, all you inters create a combo animation and post it in this thread. You can make any combo you want, be creative! (Try not to exceed like... 100 frames or anything though :p)

The cool thing is that after you guys have posted, Krustalien and I (Or any other Elite/Vet Staff Member who is willing to join in) will edit your posts with some quick CC, which will tell you how to improve on your combos.

Ok sounds sweet? Go ahead and start animatin' and postin'!

I don't know if you've seen this lithium, but i'd like your opinion on it. c:
Obviously the end was terrible.

Lith - Great work, I loved the fluency of it. To improve, I'd suggest adding a bit more power or emphasis on the hits. They were great, just looked a bit too much momentum-based and not enough power-based, if you get what I mean.
Loved that kick though and the upper-elbow :)!

Thanks alot man ;)

My body is ready.

Lith - Nice demonstration of power. I like the stretchy limbs you added. However, you can hardly call this a proper combo. You only added 3 attacks, which weren't linked together. It also looks like you relied too heavily on effects to make it look good.
I want to see another one from you, but this time make it a chain-combo, not just random spontaneous attacks.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great animation, but not exactly a combo.

Okay, I'll make another one. (thumbsup)

THIS IS NOT A DISCUSSION THREAD

I think you guys are missing the point of this. This is to help you improve your combo skills. It is NOT a competition. Even if your combo is the worst in this thread, you're not going to get bashed for it. I created this so that the inters (And beginners too in this case) can get some CC from higher skilled Veteran and Elite Staff members.

I encourage EVERYONE to participate and whip up a quick combo. It doesn't have to be fancy or long. What's the point of me editing these posts if it wasn't to help you anyway?

Also, after every 5 combos posted, I will post one of my Pro-Combo-Tips as a guideline for improvement. Have fun learning guys, stop bashing yourselves up that you can't do it. That is the point of this thread!

probably the worst combo I've made lol....

Lith - Nice movements and spacing. You linked together the fluency very well. The kicks were my favourite part. The punches... not so much. It looked like he was just flailing his arms around randomly. You need to show more control of the body, it looked like his arms were de-tatched from his torso - EG: Robotic-Like.
Show more body emphasis next time. Give it another go :D!

I've been working on the whole flash style for quite a while, trying to see how long I can keep a combo going. :D

Lith - Oh man that is fucking awesome! I love it. So original and... unique. I'm honestly finding it hard to critisize. My main complaint was that the power of the punches didn't really fit in. I reckon you should of added more faster recoil in them, so that they look more SNAPPY. Another thing is that sometimes you used too much continuation and not enough break. I know it's the style and all, but I'd love to see you use all these wicked fast and choppy moves but with some breathers into it, so it looks like it gives the figure more time to set up another attack. This is just preference based btw :p, so it isn't a must, I just reckon it'd be a cool mixture. You already nailed this style, just time to add some MORE to it imo. Brilliant work. Try make another one!

Oh wow thanks Lith! This Is actually the first time I've posted anything using this style. I've been working on It for ages so It's great to finally get some CC (especially from you <3). I'll try my best to work on everything you said. :D

Made this in school. Why am I always the most inspired when I'm not supposed to be?

Lith - That was awesome. I love your style, like usual. I've noticed you like making a lot of your attacks spontaneous and bouncy, which is cool. My main advice, like what most people need to work on, is power. Those jabs for instance looked sort of floppy and soft. You need to make some of your poses cleaner, as they look messy and displeasing at times. However, very nice acrobatic kicks. You're really good at those.
Awesome work Strider, another cool animation!

Much appreciated, thank you (thumbsup)

Pro Combo Tip 1 - Utilizing the body

Ok, biggest mistake a lot of you make is power. I'm not talking about how fast or snappy you make your attacks. I'm talking about using the body and legs as the base of your power. Professional fighters use their bodies for the power of their punches, not just the arm itself, why should it be any different in pivot? If you listen to most boxers or martial artists, they will tell you to either step in when you punch, rotate your shoulders or hips etc.

Example of power:
Image

See how the figure uses his legs and body to create the power? If he was just flailing his arms around, it would of turned out floppy and un-coordinated. Also, notice how the figure doesn't go into a continuous speed of momentum? Instead, he uses his torso/legs (Even his spare hand) to create a speed + power of each new attack, if you get what I mean.

In short, the figure uses his body/legs to move into the direction his about to strike, than snaps his arms in a powerful motion.

Try this out guys, you could even just experiment this technique with a singular punch or kick to get started. Once you grasp this concept, it becomes quite simple and effective to remember.

QUOTE TO REMEMBER: Power comes from the body, not the arms!

Very helpful, thanks a lot man. I'll make a new combo later today, trying to use these suggestions.

blegh

the punch at the end is disgustingly shit.

Krust - more cool styles! That was certainly interesting to watch. It's a bit awkward for a few reasons that I can see:

1. the hits are very spaced out. To link them you had to move the body a lot between attacks, and so it's a bit spazzy. I can also see you double framed once or twice. I recommend staying away from double frames. The movements are fast, a little unclear, double framing doesn't slow them down, it just makes the animation even more "jittery". If you space it so you don't have double frames, your eye will follow the movement better, making it less awkward to view and "cleaner". It's hard to explain... in short, try not to double frame, simply space a little lighter. Spacing lighter also means you can emphasize power on attacks more easily, as there will be a bigger contrast in the spacing.

2. the attacks you chose aren't very natural. Taking real life as an example, you can get that same number of impacts with a fraction of the movement, which a human being would generally favour over whacky flips and things. This ties into the hits being very spaced out thing I mention above.

3. lastly, you may find it easier to animate combos with a more realistically proportioned stickfigure. The one you used there has a short back and long legs. Looks awesome for lots of things, hard to use otherwise.

Thanks Krust, been awhile since i animated and i tried to use one of my older bases which was not the perfect choice for realistic combos :3

I all present you, my shit:

press fps up 2-3 times, haven't animated in a long while but it was fun :D

edit:
Lithium that animation is just, perfect (thumbsup)

I'll try that now btw

Krust - that was awesome! The style is lovely, it's really... uh... stylised? Hah. The movements are clean, they're powerful, and despite being quite far apart they're linked well. Only suggestion is to keep the back a little less bent perhaps, as when he stands straight at the end it looks weirdly out of place after the rest being bent. Please use this style more, it's very entertaining. (thumbsup) (thumbsup)

thanks alot <3

yeah vagic and strider also told me about the back, it just happened unconciously I guess.
